Board games?

Posted on 1619 October 2009 by admin in board games

I am looking for a particular board game that I used to play with my uni mates and I can’t remember what it is called so I thought I would ask here.

It is a board game which incorporates a few other classic games like pictionary, charades and a pictionary type game but where you mould the answer with playdoh. Does anyone know what this game is?

Also, if anyone knows of any other good board games to invest in, please let me know – my boyfriend and I are trying to save some money and need ideas to keep us busy – we’re not the type to sit and watch much TV and will soon get bored of doing this – but we do like playing games like trivial pursuit, dingbats, backgammon etc.

Any good websites that stock board games would be good as well – whenever you search woolworths / argos or somewhere you just end up with board games which have been converted to DVD / playstation etc.

Thanks :o )

Cranium!

I love that game, it’s my favorite!

Also, for you and your man — Scrabble and Cribbage are good games for two….both a little old school, but can be really fun!

What would cause a backgammon player to sacrafice piece to middle?

Posted on 1611 October 2009 by admin in backgammon

Playing the computer on backgammon the other night, I rolled like normal, NOT capturing any of the computers pieces. The computer then rolled, put one of his pieces onto the bar, then used his roll to take his piece back off of the bar and play it back in my home, just as if I had captured it, but that never took place. I have never seen or heard of any move like this and don’t see the point of this either. Anyone have a clue?

It maybe a glitch in the game software.

What is the most effective way to teach chess to kids?

Posted on 1607 October 2009 by admin in chess

I recently got a cool job teaching an 11 year old chess. Many of the details are still being worked out (and I am unsure what his level is), but I will be teaching once a week for probably between 1-2 hours. What are some effective ways to teach openings, tactics, strategy, and endings, and what are the key concepts I should get to first?

Assuming he knows notation, go over his games.

Otherwise rhymes are memorable, like knight on rim is grim.
