Lost Cities is a great 2-player game. It was one of the first in the line of small box games for two. This explanation and review will teach you all you need to know to play this game.

Also, all BGWS episodes after 014 are over at http://boardgameswithscott.com and are not on YouTube.

backgammon back game example

Posted on 3019 August 2009 by admin in backgammon

Here is a good example of how to roll a prime forward to trap a checker when playing a back game. This was a real game played on FIBS(www.fibs.com) that I happened to be watching. It was an experienced 1800+ player vs one of the gnubg bots.

To those who are not familiar with backgammon and what a “back game” is..The object of a backgammon game is to bring your checkers around to your home quadrant but sometimes when things go bad from the start (you get hit and sent back anytime you try anything), the best strategy is to
get hit intentionally and get even MORE checkers sent back to occupy as many of your oppoent home points as possible. Your opponent will wack your checkers with glee while comtemplating the possiblities of a gammon or backgammon (triple the stakes for winning while opponent checkers still stuck in your quardant). But what happens is that when your opponent brings all his checkers home, your pieces are blocking the way and things start getting awkward. Eventually your opponent is forced to leave a blot and can end up losing the game sometimes with just the last 2 checkers left or even a single checker left to bear off that gets trapped and is not able to come back around before you win. The cube becomes another instrument of torture when you redouble forcing your opponent to concede defeat after what seemed like to sure big win, or they may be too ed off (“steamed”) to give up and will play on giving you big lead.
