How much money are these old board games worth, if anything?

Posted on 1816 November 2009 by admin in board games

I grew up in the 90s and came across a bunch of board games I have and was just curious as to how much money I can get from a pawn shop, or if it’s worth going to an antique appraiser? They probably are still making most of the games I have, but I have the original’s and was just curious. The games are Guess Who, Connect Four, Risk, Stratego, Life, Monopoly, Scrabble, and Triple Yahtzee. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you got any of them in the 1990s, none of them are "originals".

For a few of them, having a particularly old copy in excellent condition might be worth something. However, unless it’s one of the first printing of Monopoly from 1936, "something" probably doesn’t mean more than 10 or 15 bucks.

What are some good fun board games for a couples game night??

Posted on 816 November 2009 by admin in board games

We are starting up a game night with about 3-4 other couples. What are so good fun board games either to play on teams or on your own?

Scattergories, Balderdash, Probe, Nameburst, Clue, Parcheesi? Lots of good ones out there!

Board games?

Posted on 1619 October 2009 by admin in board games

I am looking for a particular board game that I used to play with my uni mates and I can’t remember what it is called so I thought I would ask here.

It is a board game which incorporates a few other classic games like pictionary, charades and a pictionary type game but where you mould the answer with playdoh. Does anyone know what this game is?

Also, if anyone knows of any other good board games to invest in, please let me know – my boyfriend and I are trying to save some money and need ideas to keep us busy – we’re not the type to sit and watch much TV and will soon get bored of doing this – but we do like playing games like trivial pursuit, dingbats, backgammon etc.

Any good websites that stock board games would be good as well – whenever you search woolworths / argos or somewhere you just end up with board games which have been converted to DVD / playstation etc.

Thanks :o )

Cranium!

I love that game, it’s my favorite!

Also, for you and your man — Scrabble and Cribbage are good games for two….both a little old school, but can be really fun!

What are some fun board games with changing boards?

Posted on 226 October 2009 by admin in board games

What are some fun board games, where the game board changes? Example:
Settlers of Catan – Each time, the board is different.
Zombies!!! – The game starts in the town square, but over time the game board grows and is "explored"

What are some other fun games like this, where the board changes? This always seems to make games interesting

Entdecker, by the designer of Settlers of Catan, is about exploring, and the islands are built up as the game progresses.

If you liked Zombies!!!, you may enjoy Last Night on Earth, an excellent zombie themed game in which the town is built randomly from various boards at the start of the game.

Probably the ultimate customizable board is in HeroScape, which has gigantic sets of plastic hex terrain to build 3 dimensional boards.

Ghost Stories, a cooperative game, has a board that is created with randomly placed tiles. Its only built from 9 tiles, so it doesn’t vary a lot, but it is a great game.

The adventure game Descent features tiles that can be built in a wide variety of game boards.

The Dungeoneer card games have a board built up by playing cards during the game.

There are a lot more, but hopefully that’s a good start for you.

Happy gaming!

What are some board games to enjoy with your significant other?

Posted on 2526 September 2009 by admin in board games

On a few days/nights when we’re bored we sit down and play a board/card game. We’ve played so many we’ve ran out. I was just wondering if there are any fun games that i can play with him, to have a laugh and maybe even spice things up. Someything funny we can enjoy when bored.
haha thanks.
Already got the duvet for xmas ;)

From the sounds of it, you’re looking for 2-player games, so I’ll restrict my answer to games that work well with just two players.

My recommendations for you are:
- Can’t Stop (light and fast)
- Lost Cities (light and fast)
- Hive (more strategy, but still light and fast)
- Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers (if you’re feeling competitive)
- Yinsh (pure abstract strategy, will melt your brain when you first try it).

All of these games are easy to learn and work well with two players.

Someone else recommended "Ticket to Ride". It’s a truly great game, but I wouldn’t recommend it for just two players; it plays best with 4-5.
